Diwali is one of the biggest festivals in India, but celebrating it away from the country brings with it its own type of charm. It brings in its own inclusivity. It brings in the chance of getting together with your community, celebrating your traditions, and the reason of devouring Indian food.

Before the actual celebration begins, you can see pre-Diwali celebrations starting at least a few weeks before. These celebrations include rituals, prayers, offerings, get-togethers, feasts, lights, firecrackers and gifts!

Let’s focus on Traditional Diwali Food- Sweets!

One of the most important rituals of Diwali is making sweets and snacks from the scratch. It is a great way of getting family members together and spending quality time with them, which is of utmost importance. In other words, it is a tradition that should be kept alive.

This Diwali, make sweets and snacks using organic Chickpea Flour (Besan)Rice flour and Sooji. Some of the famous Diwali mithais you can try are:

Kaju Katli – made with powdered cashews, unsalted butter and khoya (mawa)

Kheer – a thick pudding made of milk, sugar and rice, flavored with cardamom and garnished with dry fruits

Gulab Jamun – milk-based round balls deep-fried and soaked in sugar syrup

Puran Poli – sweet flatbread stuffed with Chana DalCardamom and Sugar

The famous Vada Pav – deep-fried round balls filled with potatoes and masala served with Indian buns

Onion Bhajiye / Pakoras – deep-fried onions in a batter of gram flour and spices

Spicy Peanuts – peanuts roasted / fried with spices

Namak Pare – Tiny crispy fried squares of flour, seasoned with salt and cumin seeds
